From Steve Lehto's post. Something about this car should jump out at a 1st gen Camaro enthusiast.

There was no first gen z28? That or the stripes are wrong.

Well, there was no first gen Z28. It was a Z/28.
But no, and the stripes appear fine.

not having one of these next to it?
Or painted bumper (maybe, I thought they were chrome), or misaligned headlight doors

No, I believe that is OK

VE3 Endura bumper is rare but accurate.

The grill should be chrome and there should be no lights visible.

I believe it depends on the year. I believe the light changed location in 69, but on a technicality, the 69 was still first-gen.

$500 option. $1000 if you want her to act excited.

Well the big red flag I see (and I see often) is the caution fan sticker. No Camaro or Chevy had these! Without paperwork the bumper raises suspicions due to the rarity especially on a RS car. Grille is also wrong. Should be silver in a non SS car.

Marker light and emblem placement looks correct for 1969

**DING DING**
I just KNEW that your name would be the one that nails this.
That's a Ford caution fan sticker, and seeing it on a nice Chevrolet is like that car's way of saying "I'm with stupid".
I've seen it on super rare cars. Even freaking ZL1s, and you'd think their owners would do some fact checking.
Classic Industries started selling it (incorrectly!) as a GM replacement.
Grill color seems correct to me as it's an RS car.

Light are on the right track. Headlights should be visible http://www.camaros.org/model.shtml#Z2…

Besides the body-colored bumper, it does seem to have at least one too many Z/28s on it for that model year

black grilles are always SS only. Chevelles were the same way. Only time a SS car did not get a black grille was on a black car.
If it was a 67 or 68 Camaro RS then it would be an all black grille or a black grille with chrome horizontal bars (early 68). On non RS Camaros then it depends if its a SS or not. In 69 they began having both silver and black on the RS grilles.

way to make the distinction. Although if you really want to get picky, there was no badged Z/28 till mid 68.
The Z/28 vs Z28 is like the Sting Ray (63-67) vs Stingray (69-76) thing

Aren't the headlights incorrect for the model year?

68 was the first year side markers were added due to new government regulations. The badge and marker replacement is correct for a 69. 69 is still a first gen Camaro as well.

You sure about that? I know about the SS grill color black/silver deal but I am pretty sure in a '69 RS car black is correct.
Had to double check.
http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml…
For a Hugger Orange RS/Z it looks like a black grill would be correct.

I think it boils down to what the line worker grabbed and stuck in. Between the two plants there are so many variances and oddities its hard nail down this is exactly how its done. One grey area is the black tail panel usage, cowl hoods, tach redlines, if you start reading the forums of the CRG your head will explode into how detailed those guys get. Down to a certain week a power valve for the carb was made.

Yeah, done that before and worked with Kurt on a project or two. I've only seen a silver RS grill once in person.

a friend in the local camaro club I'm a member of has a true 69 Triple black SS/RS. Has a silver grille and the rare factory headlight washers.
Kinja won't load my pic of the car
